Department of Food Technology and Food Hygiene

The Department of Food Technology and Food Hygiene delivers theoretical and practical courses in food technology, food hygiene, food analysis, and food laws. The department is equipped with efficient and well-equipped laboratories that serve both public and private sectors. Through studying these subjects, veterinary students gain knowledge of the production, processing, preservation, hygiene, and control of various food products. This department has effective and functional capacity to collaborate with sectors such as the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, standards and norms authorities, animal food quality control bodies, the Ministry of Commerce, organizations and private entrepreneurs, and market advisory services. It plays an important role in ensuring food security, standardization, and the establishment of internationally recognized criteria, identifying existing challenges in the food sector, and applying effective research methods to solve these problems, thereby supporting relevant sectors in their respective activities. The main focus of this department is on food hygiene, human food technology, and food legislation, and it strives to define food standards based on scientific principles. The department is staffed with qualified academic members holding PhD and Master’s degrees and makes valuable contributions to both public and private sectors. It also holds membership in working committees of sectors related to its disciplines. The academic staff of this department are committed to scientific activities, research, and service to the community. The department has strong opportunities for self-sufficiency through service delivery and applied scientific research.
