Current situation
The Faculty of Languages and Literature has three graduating departments: the Department of Pashto Language and Literature, the Department of Dari Language and Literature, and the Department of Uzbek Language and Literature. Teaching and academic and research activities are conducted by faculty members holding the academic ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Lecturer, Junior Lecturer, and Candidate Junior Lecturer.
The Departments of Pashto Language and Literature and Dari Language and Literature, in addition to bachelor’s programs, also offer master’s and doctoral programs. The curriculum has been revised and updated in accordance with the demands and needs of the labor market and society. Relevant committees continuously work to update and enrich the curriculum. Admission to bachelor’s and master’s programs is conducted through the national Afghanistan Kankor (entrance examination). The bachelor’s program consists of 8 semesters, the master’s program of 4 semesters, and the doctoral program lasts from 6 to 10 semesters. Instruction in this faculty is conducted in Pashto, Dari, and Uzbek, depending on the respective department.
The faculty has two libraries that provide books, journals, and scientific-research materials in the fields of literature, linguistics, writing, translation, and related disciplines for researchers and students. The scientific journals Wazhma Scientific-Research Journal and Adab Journal regularly publish scholarly research articles by faculty members, students, and researchers. In addition to print publication, the Wazhma Scientific-Research Journal is also regularly published online on the Kabul University website.
The Faculty of Languages and Literature is located within the Kabul University campus and has an independent two-story building that houses the faculty administration, management offices, and the three departments. Each department administration has a designated office. The building also includes a mosque, a conference and student defense hall, two libraries, 23 classrooms, and 28 faculty offices.

The faculty is equipped with classrooms furnished with LCDs and projectors; administrative, teaching, and faculty offices equipped with computers, printers, photocopy machines, and cabinets; classrooms furnished with single-student desks; a regular drinking water system; and an organized document archive.
