Animal Sciences Department

Introduction:

The Department of Animal Sciences started operating in 1335 under the name of Department of Livestock and its purpose is to train students to the bachelor and master level in various fields of livestock such as (breeding dairy and beef cattle, domestic chickens for egg and meat production and sheep and goats breeding) The products are made through the breeding of various farm animals.

Educational objectives:

  • Providing standard and high-quality technical knowledge in various departments of animal science for students for their effective participation in society.

  • Using sustainable livestock systems to fight hunger and improve food security.

  • Responding by providing educational programs and quality services for livestock development in the country.

  • Introducing new livestock technologies to transform traditional livestock into modern livestock.

  • Acquiring professional knowledge and necessary skills to introduce the methods of storage, processing and regulation of raw materials for industrial factories.

  • Successfully carrying out professional duties and responsibilities in government and non-government offices by using authentic scientific research and specialized knowledge.

  • Training of professional staff in two bachelor and master programs and presenting professionals to the society.

Vision:

The Department of Animal Sciences is determined to be a well-known institution at the national and regional level by providing teaching, standard research, training of expert and knowledgeable staff, and other services related to the field of animal science.

Mission:

The Department of Animal Sciences is committed to providing standard scientific, research, and practical services in the direction of capacity building, training of scientific personnel through teaching, research, and providing professional services for the development of an important part of the agriculture sector at the national and regional level.

Basic objectives:

  • Training of skilled experts and skilled staff at bachelor and master level.

  • Solving the problems of livestock farmers in the food and animal nutrition sector, pastures, genetics animal breeding, and animal farm administration.

Affiliations:

Currently, there is no twinning in the Animal Sciences Department with other universities.

Laboratory and equipment:

The department has an independent laboratory, which is relatively equipped with the basic equipment needed. The mentioned tools are used to advance the scientific research of students.
