Vision, Mission and Goals

 Vision

To elevate the Faculty of Languages and Literature to a reputable and well-recognized national and international center in the fields of training specialized and committed human resources, research, knowledge production, and the provision of academic services.

The Faculty of Languages and Literature seeks to educate qualified, active, dynamic, and committed cadres, adorned with an Islamic spirit, in the fields of language and literature, in order to serve our dear country Afghanistan—which possesses a rich culture and history—and to present them to society regardless of language, ethnicity, gender, or religion.

 Mission

To train professional and specialized cadres required by society at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, who believe in the historical values and laws of the country, sincerely serve Afghanistan, and play an active role in knowledge production and in accelerating development processes in Afghanistan, the region, and the world.

 

Fundamental or Strategic Objectives

The purpose of establishing the Faculty of Languages and Literature is to understand the cultural and literary values of the country in past centuries and today, to become aware of the nature of the country’s brilliant culture and literature, and to transfer them to future centuries through educating the younger generation. To achieve this goal, the following measures are necessary:

  • Providing high-quality educational services in consideration of the needs and demands of students and society;

  • Creating and developing facilities and resources for literary and cultural research in accordance with contemporary needs;

  • Creating opportunities for scientific research in the fields of linguistics and literary studies;

  • Striving to enhance the academic and professional richness of the Pashto, Dari, and Uzbek languages;

  • Establishing a معتبر (reputable) translation and literary-cultural research center at the faculty level;

  • Concluding academic and educational cooperation agreements with universities in the region and the world.

 

 Academic Cooperation Agreements

Throughout its history, the Faculty of Languages and Literature of Kabul University has had extensive cooperation agreements with universities and scientific and research institutions at national and international levels. However, during more than four decades of war, these relations were damaged. In recent years, these cooperation agreements have been revived and expanded. Currently, the Faculty of Languages and Literature maintains academic and scientific cooperation with institutions in Iran, France, and China, including:

  1. Yunnan Minzu University – China

  2. Ferdowsi University of Mashhad – Iran

  3. Allameh Tabataba’i University – Iran

  4. Research Institute for Humanities – Iran

  5. Jawaharlal Nehru University – India
