On Wednesday, the 14th of October 2020; "World White Cane Safety Day (Blind)" by the presence of Dr. Abbas Basir Acting Minister of Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Mohammad Osman Babury Chancellor of Kabul University and Vice Chancellors of Kabul University, Dr. Zakiyah Adeli Deputy Minister of Justice, Ms. Banafsheh Yaghoubi the commissioner of the Independent Human Rights Commission, the president of the Blind Association of Afghanistan, a number of university deans, professors, students and blind students of Kabul University were honored in the meeting hall of the Chinese Department of Languages and Literature Faculty at Kabul University.
Dr. Abbas Basir Acting Minister of Ministry of Higher Education, and Dr. Zakia Adeli, Deputy Minister of Justice, each addressed the celebration of the World White Cane Safety Day (Blind) and expressed their honor and gratitude for holding this event, they said education is the right of each Afghan citizen and government is responsible to provide opportunities and faculties for their education. Considering the provision of educational facilities for all lovers of higher education in the country, they emphasized the provision of all special educational facilities for blind students in the country's universities. Dr. Basir, the Acting Minister for Ministry of Higher Education, pledged to provide all available facilities for the Ministry of Higher Education for this group, and Dr. Zakiyah Adeli announced the "amendment and preparation of a new law on the rights and privileges of the disabled and its submission to the Law Committee for approval." She said that with its approval and implementation, better and more working and educational opportunities will be provided for the citizens and blind students of the country.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Osman Babury Chancellor of Kabul University, while welcoming the participants of the program and expressing gratitude to those involved in organizing it, he mentioned that these facilities for the blind people at the national level are not satisfactory and emphasized on providing the best facilities for them. Dr. Babury said: "Although according to the findings so far in the curriculum of the country's universities, no point has been considered for the blind students, but announced the creation of a Braille library (library and printing and reproduction for the blind) at Kabul University for the blind students of this university." Which has been provided with the cooperation of the officials of the Faculty of Languages and Literature. Dr. Babury thanked the Dean and Professors of the Faculty of Languages and Literature for their cooperation in establishing this library and congratulated the World White Cane Day to all the blind people, especially to the present blind students of this program.
Ms. Fereshteh Yaghoubi, Commissioner of the Independent Human Rights Commission and Mr. Ehsanullah Fayaz, President of Blind Association of Afghanistan, also thanked the organizers of this program and emphasized on the rights of the blind and the provision of more and better educational opportunities by the government. He expressed the hope that with the amendment and approval of the new law on the rights and privileges of the disabled by the law committee, their rights will be provided more and better conditions for work and life will be provided for them.
